Currently, research is carried out mainly in the fields of cardiology and diabetology, the ambition of the NTMC is to expand to other areas of medicine (oncology, pneumology, neurology, teleophthalmology etc.) as well, where the application of telemedicine technologies is advantageous and has the potential for further development.

The goal of NTMC is besides providing routine telemedicine care, to carry out its own research, development and scientific verification of new telemedicine procedures. To achieve that NTMC will be obtaining top know-how from foreign entities and experts, providing its dissemination to other professional workplaces throughout the Czech Republic, training new experts in telemedicine together with the use of modern methods in teaching medical and non-medical disciplines. Since 2014, telemedicine has also become one of the study subjects of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the Palacký University in Olomouc. Owing to the established center, students and academic staff can carry out study stays, professional internships and internships at foreign institutions and companies dealing with eHealth issues.Such facilities include, for example, hospitals, technology and development companies or research centers.

One of the biggest advantages of telemedicine treatment is the emphasis on preventive treatment, increasing patient comfort, saving doctors' time and overall effectiveness of providing care using information and communication technologies. Modern technologies can also increase patient safety or treatment success, as well as improve communication between healthcare professionals and patients. It will be possible to offer patients the state-of-the-art and most effective medical procedures in the field of prevention and treatment of a wide range of diseases and health issues. The goal of the NTMC is also to streamline the provision of health care to the elderly population not only through technology but also through governmental measures that will lead to the dissemination of good practices from abroad and to the implementation of integrated care in the Czech health care system. Based on the above mentioned, the goal of NTMC is to be a top research institute in the field of telemedicine which is defined against the lifestyle and commercial applications of telemedicine products and services.
